Cannabis patients’ illnesses: Sleep disorders, chronic pain, headaches, migraines, etc.

Medicinal cannabis is used to treat a wide variety of illnesses. But which symptoms and diagnoses are actually the main focus? A recent analysis shows that sleep disorders are by far the most common reason for use. Chronic pain, migraines and psychological stress also play a central role. Today we will give you an overview of the most common areas of application (of our patients) and show you what potential there is, especially for older patients – for example through digital care services.

Common illnesses among cannabis patients

The analysis of the most common diagnoses shows a clear focus. Sleep disorders are by far the most common – a symptom that severely restricts many people in their everyday lives. Chronic pain, headaches and migraines are also widespread areas of application for medicinal cannabis:

  • Sleep disorder: 41 %
  • Chronic pain: 14 %
  • Headaches / migraines: 14 %
  • Depression: 12 %
  • ADHD: 10 %
  • Anxiety disorder / PTSD: 6 %
  • Cancer: 2 %

Sleep disorders as the main indication

At 41%, the treatment of sleep disorders is the most common reason for prescribing medicinal cannabis. Many patients report lasting improvements in sleep behavior and noticeable relief in everyday life. The high relevance shows how great the need for non-addictive, alternative sleep aids is.

Mental illness also relevant

In addition to physical complaints, mental illnesses are increasingly coming into focus. Depression, anxiety disorders and ADHD together account for more than a quarter of all cases. Cannabis can be a complementary or alternative option, particularly for treatment-resistant or chronic conditions – provided that it is used responsibly under medical supervision.

Care for elderly patients through telemedicine

Older people in particular are often affected by symptoms such as sleep disorders, pain or cancer – and could benefit greatly from medicinal cannabis. Nevertheless, access for this group often remains difficult. Telemedicine services open up new possibilities: Digital consultation hours, simple prescription routes and targeted education help to close gaps in care and make it easier to get started. • Digital advice lowers barriers for older patients
  • Telemedicine enables fast, location-independent care
  • Chronic conditions in old age speak in favor of targeted cannabis therapy
  • Information deficits can be compensated for by digital offerings

Cannabis patients age?

Age groups, online prescription with telemedicine – But the idea that these are mainly young consumers persists. Our latest analysis shows: Although the largest user group is between the ages of 20 and 40, older patients are also increasingly beginning to discover medical cannabis for themselves.
