What is a cannabis pharmacy?
A cannabis dispensary is a specialized pharmacy that focuses on the sale of medicinal cannabis. They offer a wide range of flowers, extracts and other cannabis-based products that have been specially developed for cannabis therapy. All products are subject to strict legal requirements and quality controls.

What distinguishes a cannabis pharmacy from a normal pharmacy?
In principle, any pharmacy can dispense cannabis. In practice, however, pharmacies supplying cannabis are rather rare. According to the Association of Cannabis Supplying Pharmacies, 2500 to 3000 pharmacies currently supply patients with medicinal cannabis.
The most important difference between a cannabis pharmacy and a normal pharmacy is their specialization in dispensing medical cannabis.

In Germany, only patients with a valid doctor’s prescription are allowed to buy cannabis in a pharmacy. The prescription is issued by a doctor and is valid for 28 days from then on. After that, the prescription expires and can no longer be redeemed. Therefore, make sure that you redeem the prescription as soon as you receive it.
You can only buy medicinal cannabis with a prescription
It does not matter whether it is a public or private prescription, both allow you to buy medicinal cannabis in pharmacies. With a public health insurance prescription, the health insurance company covers the costs and you don’t have to pay anything at the pharmacy. With a private prescription, on the other hand, you have to pay the costs yourself.
