Smiley Face: One day, one brownie, one disaster – Movie

Smiley Face (movie) – This is perhaps the most underrated stoner movie of the 2000s – a small, absurd masterpiece with Anna Faris in probably her funniest role. The movie follows a young actress through a single day in Los Angeles – completely stoned, haphazard and increasingly overwhelmed. Director Gregg Araki stages the whole thing as a chaotic everyday comedy with absurd twists and turns and wonderfully dry humor. If you like quirky perspectives, female leads and stoner films that go beyond the clichés, you shouldn’t miss this trip. Back to: The best “stoner” movies.

What exactly is it about? Smiley Face!

Jane is broke, planned and pretty relaxed – until she accidentally eats an entire plate of space brownies that were actually intended for a cannabis medicine panel. What follows is a hellish trip through Los Angeles in search of money, weed, a printer, a pig costume and inner enlightenment. The movie jumps through space and time as Jane increasingly loses control of reality and the world of her thoughts. The result is pure escalation – with each new attempt to fix the chaos, it gets worse.

  • A complete day at THC – realistic, over-the-top, chaotic
  • It all starts with brownies – and ends with Marx and Engels
  • Weird supporting characters, grotesque situations, quiet humor
