← Cannabis Laws in Europe — Country Guide for Patients & Travelers

United Kingdom Medical only

Recreational use is illegal. A real private medical cannabis system exists (much broader than the very limited NHS access) — but a UK prescription is explicitly NOT recognized abroad, including in Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, the UAE and the USA.

Medical program
NHS access is extremely limited (Sativex/Epidyolex/Nabilone only). ~99% of patients instead use private specialist clinics, which can prescribe flower, oils and other unlicensed cannabis-based products (CBPMs).
Traveling with medical cannabis
Returning INTO the UK: patients may bring up to a 3-month supply without a special license; more requires a Home Office (DFLU) license. Traveling OUT: your UK prescription carries no weight abroad — when in doubt, do not travel internationally with your medical cannabis.
