Netherlands Decriminalized
Cannabis is technically still illegal, but sale/possession up to 5g is tolerated at licensed coffeeshops. Importantly, the Dutch government explicitly states that bringing cannabis across the border — including prescribed medicine from elsewhere — is illegal without the correct Opium Act certificate.
Medical program
Government-run program since 2003 (Bureau voor Medicinale Cannabis) supplies standardized pharmacy products (Bedrocan, Bediol, Bedica, etc.) on prescription.
Traveling with medical cannabis
Coffeeshop tolerance is a domestic policy only — it does NOT extend to cross-border import. Foreign medical patients need the correct Dutch/Schengen certificate to legally carry their medicine in, and taking cannabis OUT of the Netherlands is strictly enforced at the border.
