← Cannabis Laws in Europe — Country Guide for Patients & Travelers
Germany Legal
Recreational cannabis is partially legal since April 2024: adults may possess up to 25g in public and grow up to 3 plants, but sales only happen through non-profit clubs, not shops. Medical cannabis is comparatively easy to get with a German prescription.
Medical program
Prescription-based via pharmacies. Substantially deregulated since April 2024 — no more special approval needed for most cases, driving a large rise in prescriptions and telehealth cannabis clinics.
Traveling with medical cannabis
Despite legalization, Germany's own drug authority (BfArM) confirms a Schengen Article 75 certificate is still formally required to bring prescribed medical cannabis across the border, capped at a 30-day supply, cabin baggage only, original pharmacy packaging.
