← Cannabis Laws in Europe — Country Guide for Patients & Travelers
Austria Decriminalized
Personal cannabis use is not prosecuted as a criminal offense in Austria ("treatment instead of punishment"), but there is no recreational legalization. Medical access is real but limited to pharmaceutical products — flower cannot be prescribed.
Medical program
Doctors may prescribe THC-based products (Sativex, dronabinol, nabilone, Epidyolex) for chronic pain, MS spasticity, epilepsy and anxiety. Dried flower is NOT part of the domestic medical program.
Traveling with medical cannabis
No official Austrian statement was found for foreign medical-cannabis travelers. Because Austria itself does not prescribe flower, bringing flower-based medicine from another country is genuinely unclear — verify directly before travel.
