Redman: Career and successes
Redman, real name Reginald Noble, grew up in Newark, New Jersey. He made a name for himself as a rapper in the early 90s. His debut album “Whut? Thee Album” was a surprise success and made him instantly famous. This was followed by further albums that established him as one of the most creative and humorous minds in East Coast rap.
Redman worked with EPMD and Def Squad before enjoying great success as a solo artist and later with Method Man. His albums from the 90s are still considered classics today. He also made a name for himself outside of music – as an actor, producer and symbolic figure in the cannabis scene.
- 1992: Breakthrough with “Whut? Thee Album”
- Collaboration with Method Man & Def Squad
- Still active today as a musician & actor
His breakthrough: Time 4 Sum Aksion – Uncut
Redman & Cannabis: A symbol
Redman stands for weed culture like almost no other rapper. Even in his early tracks, he openly addressed the topic of weed when many artists were still avoiding it. He is not only interested in smoking, but also in the community, the culture and the political debates surrounding cannabis.
How Redman shaped cannabis
Whether on albums, in interviews or on social media: Redman is considered an authentic voice when it comes to cannabis. He advocates legalization, talks about the relaxing effects and inspires fans worldwide. Many younger artists see him as a pioneer who has anchored cannabis in hip-hop and pop culture.

How High: Redman in the Hollywood blockbuster
How High was released in 2001 – the film that made Redman famous outside of the rap world, including through the soundtrack to How High. Together with Method Man, he plays two stoners who get into Harvard University thanks to magical plants. The film is now a cult classic and has fans far beyond the hip-hop scene.

Redman in comparison: Snoop, Wiz, Co.
When people talk about cannabis and hip-hop, names like Snoop Dogg or Wiz Khalifa often come up. Redman definitely belongs in the same league as these stars. While Snoop stands for his relaxed West Coast vibe and Wiz Khalifa embodies modern cloud rap, Redman remains the old-school representative with East Coast roots. What all three have in common is that they are well-known faces of cannabis culture around the world and are openly committed to destigmatization and legalization.

What makes Redman special
Redman has earned his place as a cannabis icon without an image show – with him, everything seems authentic and undisguised. His fans appreciate this down-to-earth attitude. He is not someone who only raps about weed for marketing reasons, but lives the culture tangibly and honestly to this day.
- East Coast icon compared to West Coast stars
- Authentic instead of a marketing image
- Respect in the hip-hop and cannabis scene

By the way… Redman was never in the Wu Tang Clan!
I thought so at first, but Redman was never an official member of the Wu-Tang Clan. But he was close friends with them, especially with Method Man, with whom he became world-famous as a duo (Method Man & Redman).
It is often mistakenly referred to as part of Wu-Tang because:
- He was on many tracks with Method Man,
- He performed on Wu-Tang tours,
- He represents the same rough East Coast style.
But officially: not a Wu-Tang member.
