With the Medical Cannabis Act (MedCanG), a new legal basis has been created that clearly regulates the handling of medical cannabis (more specialized than the CanG). What is the Medical Cannabis Act?
The Medical Cannabis Act (more precisely the “Act on the Supply of Cannabis for Medical and Medical-Scientific Purposes”) is the central legal basis for the medical use of cannabis in Germany. It defines who may cultivate, import and distribute medicinal cannabis and under what conditions it may be dispensed to patients. The aim is to improve medical care and at the same time prevent abuse.
The MedCanG thus replaces older regulations and adapts cannabis law to medical needs. The focus is on strict quality controls and seamless traceability.

Role of the BfArM and the Cannabis Agency
The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) plays a key role. Through the Cannabis Agency, it issues licenses for cultivation in Germany and also monitors imports from abroad. This ensures that only certified suppliers with clear standards enter the market.
The Cannabis Agency also monitors compliance with the regulations and ensures that quality and safety are guaranteed at all times. The MedCanG thus fulfills a similar function to other pharmaceutical laws.
The MedCanG stipulates that medical cannabis must be produced according to GMP standards. GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practice and ensures that cannabis is treated as a medicinal product. Each batch must pass purity and safety tests before it is put into circulation.
This prevents contaminated or unsafe products from reaching patients. At the same time, GMP certification creates trust and transparency. Our cannabis manufacturers in the store are also all GMP-certified.

Dispensing only in pharmacies
An important point in the MedCanG is that cannabis will only be dispensed in cannabis pharmacies. Doctors can prescribe cannabis on prescription, but it will only be dispensed by pharmaceutical companies. This ensures that every dispensing is documented and checked.
